Jesus at the Centers Podcast

Speaker 1:

Hey friends, this is Courtney Centers and you are listening to the Jesus at the Centers podcast. Are you Jesus-centered or world-centered? It is that simple and I know I know if you're like me, you're thinking of the movie the Notebook. It's not that simple. But, guys, this is that simple. But guys, this is that simple. Jesus tells us that we are to have him at the center of everything that we do, everything we say, how we act, how we love, and when we choose to have Jesus at the center of every area of our life, there is this aroma that follows us everywhere we go and it's reflecting this glorious light of Jesus. We're going to dive deep to understand what it's like to live a Jesus-centered life as a woman for Christ. This is the Jesus at the Centers podcast. I'm your host, courtney Centers. Let's get real. Hey friends, welcome back with me.

Speaker 1:

Today we are talking about the meaning of being the salt and the light to the world. So let us leave this episode with the spirit in silence and surrender and we do this in every episode, If you are new. We take a moment in the beginning of our episode, together as a church body, to just surrender everything back to Christ. So, lord, we surrender everything in our lives to you right now Our relationship with you, our marriages, our children, our finances, our jobs, our desires, anything and everything that you have given to us to steward for your glory, god. We give it back to you. Have it and do what you will with it. Lord, just Jesus and his plans. Thank you, jesus, amen. Thank you, jesus, amen. So, friends, as I said before, we are going to be talking about what it actually means to be the salt and the light today. This episode is a short and sweet one. It's very simple, so just hang tight and let's get to it.

Speaker 1:

In the last episode, we talked all about, like how salt was used as a preservative and how it was really used to preserve meat mostly, which. Let's just break that down for a second. Okay, so if we are preserving meat, the meat has the protein our bodies need right Nutrients to become stronger, so protein makes our muscles stronger. That's what we need to grow our muscles right. So salt need to grow our muscles right. So salt the use of salt as a preservative for the meat that they needed. This is what they did. They needed that meat to stay good, right, in order to eat it, so that they could get stronger.

Speaker 1:

Now let's tie this analogy to our salvation. It's so simple and you're going to be like, oh my goodness, we are weak without Christ, right, and some may want to admit, some may not want to admit this, but it is our design, it's true. It's how God made us. We need Jesus, made us, we need Jesus and in that relationship, that salvation that we have because of Jesus, we have this supernatural ability, as Christians who are born again, to display Jesus to the world, like first of all, before we get into anything else. How crazy cool is that that God works through us, uses us as a vessel to get to others and reveal himself to them, like that is just so crazy cool, right? Okay?

Speaker 1:

So in Matthew, chapter 5, verse 13 through 16, if you have your Bibles, you can turn with me or just listen in. Wherever you are, you are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden, nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket on a stand and it gives light to all in the house In the same way. Let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father, who is in heaven. So after reading this passage, we see that there is a call to be the salt of the earth, right, and when we salt our meat, going back to that, it makes the taste more interesting. To that it makes the taste more interesting, giving it more flavor, if you will. It makes the character of the meat more exciting and enjoyable, right.

Speaker 1:

So if you went to a steakhouse, like think about this for a second If you went to a steakhouse and you ordered a steak that had no salt on it at all, you would probably not be too happy with the outcome of the flavor. You'd probably be asking your waitress or waiter to send it back. So same with us as Christians, when we go out into the world and we have lost our saltiness. The Bible tells us very clearly that our reflection of Jesus is no longer good. We are not showing the world who he is in our words and our actions or choices because we have for lack of a better way of saying it. We have no flavor. We're not allowing that saltiness to take root in our lives. It doesn't bear fruit that people can recognize Jesus in. So how do we practically do this? What does this look like when we have lost our flavor?

Speaker 1:

Okay, so, when we're putting Jesus at the center of every single thing in our lives, not just on Sunday mornings or Wednesday nights or, you know, in our weekly Bible study, but in everything that we do the tough parts of our lives, those super, super, unbearable moments of our lives, or even unbearable seasons we then are going to bear fruit of the Spirit, are going to bear fruit of the spirit, and that is where that divine, supernatural power comes from from Jesus, because he's the only one that can do that in us, right? So people then get to see Jesus, and that's that's what it's all about. We are called to go make disciples. That's what it's all about. You are letting the salt in you pour over the earth Now to be a light. We do this through how we love. How do we love others and care for them? Do you carry their burdens on your shoulders too? Are you putting yourself above others, or are you serving yourself before others? Who are you putting in front of you. But again, not only that. How is your heart posture in the midst of this?

Speaker 1:

We can serve others all day long, and when we don't invite Jesus to be the center of our serving like that is a whole message in itself. But when we don't invite Jesus to be the center of our serving, it becomes this mundane, worldly task. And not in a mundane way that the Bible tells us that mundane can be good. No, this becomes mundane in a worldly sense and you become a slave to yourself and to the enemy. You are losing your saltiness. At this point, therefore, no light can shine, nothing, nothing can be preserved, nothing has flavor. People don't see Jesus in a lifestyle like that, and that's the point, that's the whole point.

Speaker 1:

So, closing this episode out, I hope this serves as a reminder to you to keep pressing on to keep Jesus at the center of everything so that we can be the salt and light to those around us, carrying that with you wherever you go. You never know what opportunity will come your way to meet someone and tell them about Jesus will come your way to meet someone and tell them about Jesus, and we don't want to pass up those divine appointments. He says you are a daughter of the King, you are a child of God, you are His delight, you are a masterpiece of His creation, you are a beautiful piece of artwork to Him. You have a calling, you have a purpose and you belong to him. And when we live as his daughters, as we are called, those around us get to see Jesus.
